The SafePlans’ Story
SafePlans
began as S.A.F.E. Consulting in 1993 as a part-time security consulting
business while Brad Spicer was a Trooper with the Missouri State Highway
Patrol. In 1999, based on his
experience Patrol’s tactical response team, Mr. Spicer began exploring ways
to link facility floor plans with digital images to help SWAT personnel
respond faster and safer to critical incidents.
In
2000 while assigned to the Missouri’s Governor’s Security Detail a newly
elected Governor’s two school-aged children introduced Mr. Spicer to the
emergency preparedness challenges faced by schools that are not addressed by
item aping alone. In
working hand in hand with schools he developed strategies with the goals of
mitigation and reducing response to action time.
These strategies took into consideration that in a school-based
emergency, there are two separate responses; the response of the school that
is affected by the incident and the response of public safety to assist the
school. These concepts are
the foundation of what is now the ERIP solution.
In
2003, while a sergeant with just over 11 years of services, Mr. Spicer
resigned from a promising career with the Highway Patrol to focus on
improving school readiness.
Since then, he has grown SafePlans into a multi-million dollar consulting
and technology firm, developed a strong technology partnership with
International Business Machines (IBM) and implemented ERIP in the nation’s
largest education preparedness solution.
